Building inspector internship program: Guidelines for municipalities
Learn how to design and deliver the program under the Building Code.
Introduction
Ontario’s new building inspector internship program under the Building Code Act, 1992 provides an additional opportunity for municipalities to design and administer their own programs.
The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing amended the Building Code to establish an alternate framework for the local delivery of internship programs, which includes the:
- design of local programs
- scope of work an intern can undertake
- timing and contents of municipal updates to the ministry
These guidelines are intended to help municipal building departments develop internship programs and may be updated periodically to reflect engagement and consultation with municipalities and to ensure the internship programs are effective in achieving intended outcomes.
