Event permit
Overview
Only licensed promoters can apply for a professional combative sport event permit.
Applying for an event permit
You must submit your event permit application at least 30 days before the date of your proposed event along with a non-refundable permit fee of $300 to the Ontario Athletics Commission.
The application must include:
- venue details
- a letter confirming the availability of the venue on the proposed date
How to apply
- Fill out and submit the event permit application form.
- Pay the required permit fee.
If you are approved for a permit
At least 14 days before an event
Provide the following to the Ontario Athletics Commission:
- Security deposit, including:
- fees payable to officials, as set out in the “Fees and Expenses Payable to Officials by the Commissioner” regulation
- event administration fee of $250 per bout (with a minimum fee of $1,500)
- medical deposit for contestants without proof of medical insurance or who are not covered by a participant accident policy
- Certificate of insurance that provides proof of general liability insurance for the event with a minimum coverage of $5,000,000
- List of all proposed bouts
At least 7 days before an event
Provide the following to the Ontario Athletics Commission:
- copies of all contracts between the promoter and contestants and amount payable to each contestant
- confirmation of the presence of security guards at the events
- confirmation of the presence of two individuals with the qualifications of a paramedic at the event, and one of the following:
- municipal off-call or special-events ambulance
- private ambulance
If you are denied a permit
The Commissioner will notify you by email.
Permit appeals
If the Commissioner refuses, suspends or cancels a permit to host an event, you are entitled to a hearing by the Licence Appeals Tribunal — General Service.
