Over 80 and need to renew
You need to renew your driver’s licence every 2 years with a:
- vision test
- written test and
- take part in a group education session
The session cannot be done outside Ontario.
If you cannot attend a renewal session before your licence expires, you could get a one-time temporary driver’s licence.
You can only get this permit once you have booked a renewal session.

Moving outside Ontario
Check with local officials to see what documentation you need, before you drive in another province, state or country.
The rules depend on where you move to and can differ depending on if you plan to visit temporarily or move permanently.
You may need to exchange your Ontario driver’s licence for one issued in the jurisdiction you move to.
