Project summary
The City of Mississauga (city) has undertaken an environmental assessment (EA) for the 1 Port Street East proposed marina project (project). This assessment looks at how the proposed project could impact the environment.
The Port Credit Harbour Marina (PCHM) is located within a harbour basin east of the mouth of the Credit River. PCHM was privately operated by Centre City Capital Limited on the wharf leased from Canada Lands Company, the owners of a portion of 1 Port Street East. The PCHM lease has expired and an opportunity to create additional waterfront parkland and marina services for the site has been proposed.
The city is undertaking the project to relocate the existing marina with a new public marina, continuing its function and service at the project site. The city is also expanding the land base around the eastern breakwater to create additional waterfront parkland. The creation of parkland will enhance the site’s terrestrial and aquatic habitat and benefit the community by providing safe public access to the Lake Ontario waterfront, where none currently existed.
As part of the EA process, the city considered and compared the benefits and effects of a range of design alternatives for the proposed marina and parkland as per the approved terms of reference.
The final step was to confirm and refine the final project design and complete the detailed assessment of the project.
Through the EA process and consultation with stakeholders, Indigenous communities and the public, the city has established a conceptual design for the preferred alternative for the project.
