Brooks Road Landfill Site Vertical Capacity Expansion
Project information about this environmental assessment.
Current status
On January 15, 2019 the Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks approved the environmental assessment for this project.
Project summary
Brooks Road Environmental (BRE) has completed an environmental assessment for a vertical expansion of the existing Brooks Road landfill site (formerly known as Edwards Landfill).
The proposed expansion will add 421,000 cubic metres of waste disposal capacity, including cover. Waste will be deposited on top of existing waste piles with no change to the landfill footprint.
BRE is also proposing an alteration to the rate at which waste is received at the site, from a daily maximum of 500 tonnes to an annual maximum of 151,000 tonnes to account for seasonal variations in the amount of waste received.
