Sibling workshop: same make, different model

It is important to be educated about ‘leaky brake’ disorders and to have an opportunity to discuss the impact these disorders have on sibling relationships.

Who is this workshop for?

  • Siblings of children/youth diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome and other ‘leaky brake’ disorders

What happens in this workshop and how this group can help?

  • Siblings will receive education on ‘Leaky Brake’ disorders in an easy to understand format/presentation
  • Siblings will be given the opportunity to discuss the impact of living with ‘leaky brake’ disorders in their family home
  • Siblings will be provided the opportunity to interact with professionals currently involved in the brother/sister’s treatment service
  • Siblings will learn strategies for self-advocacy

Where is the group held?

  • CPRI campus

When is the group held?

  • Up to two times a year (Spring and Fall): typically Saturdays from 10:00a.m. - 2:00p.m.
  • Wait times vary from weeks to over a year depending upon multiple factors (referral date, age-range of planned group, family availability, other services receiving concurrent to planned group, etc.)

Who will participate in this group?

  • Siblings of Brake Shop clients

What if I decline this group?

  • Various books and DVDs as are available in the Family Resource Centre
  • Staff can refer you to specific websites containing resource materials

What are the requirements to be in this group?

  • Significant sibling relationship difficulties
  • A motivation to change current sibling interactions
  • Guardians can commit to providing transportation to and from the workshop, and to read/watch various educational materials provided

Referrals to all Brake Shop treatment groups and consultations are requested & arranged through your Brake Shop Case Coordinator.
