Local cartage drivers and driver’s helpers
This does not apply to you if you are a highway transport truck driver.
This does apply to you if you are a local cartage driver that transports goods for hire within a municipality, or a driver’s helper for a local cartage driver.
Special rules or exemptions
You are entitled to overtime pay for each hour worked over 50 hours in a work week.
This special rule is set out in O. Reg. 285/01.
Highway transport truck drivers
This does not apply to you if you are a local cartage driver or driver’s helper.
This does apply to you if you drive trucks in “for hire” trucking businesses.
Special rules or exemptions
You are entitled to overtime pay for each hour you worked over 60 hours in a work week. Only hours that you are directly responsible for the truck are counted.

Public transit employees
This applies to you if you are a driver or collector for a public transit system.
Special rules or exemptions
You are generally entitled to a daily rest period of 11 consecutive hours free from work each day. However, if you and your employer agree in writing, you can take eight consecutive hours off work each day instead.
You are generally entitled to an eating period of 30 minutes after five hours of work. However, you are not entitled to eating periods if:
- you are working a straight shift by choice
- you are working a split shift by choice and no meal break that complies with the general eating period rule is provided, or
- you are working whatever straight shift or split shift that the employer assigned to you by choice and no meal break that complies with the general eating period rule is provided

Taxi cab drivers

You are not entitled to:
- overtime pay
- public holidays or public holiday pay
