Creating and sustaining an MHC is a significant step towards heritage conservation. It signals that your municipality is committed to:

  • identifying and protecting properties of cultural heritage value or interest
  • celebrating the stories, places and events of the people that have shaped your community
  • harnessing local talent and expertise for conserving your heritage
  • making heritage conservation a priority
  • honouring its past to assure the community’s long-term prosperity, sustainability and social well-being
  • building relationships with, and recognizing the efforts of heritage property owners
  • taking advantage of the powers afforded to them by the Ontario Heritage Act

Establishing and supporting an MHC is an investment for building your community’s heritage conservation legacy.
