Order in Council 1606/2025
On the recommendation of the undersigned, the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, by and with the advice and concurrence of the Executive Council of Ontario, orders that:
Whereas the Lieutenant Governor in Council established the position of Special Advisor, Toronto New Deal (the “Special Advisor”) for a period not extending beyond December 31, 2025 under Order in Council 1179/2024 (the “2024 OIC”) to provide advice to the Minister of Finance (the “Minister”) on issues related to the effective implementation of the “New Deal” with the City of Toronto, including the longer-term sustainability of the City’s finances and the advancement of Provincial priorities;
And whereas the Government of Ontario wishes to extend the term of the position of Special Advisor to continue to provide advice to the Minister on the implementation of the “New Deal”;
Therefore, pursuant to the prerogative of His Majesty the King in right of Ontario to provide for the appointment of advisors to serve His Majesty’s Government of Ontario in the discharge of its executive obligations and responsibilities;
Special Advisor
- The position of Special Advisor, Toronto New Deal as established under the 2024 OIC is hereby extended for a period beginning on January 1, 2026 and not extending beyond December 31, 2026;
Terms of Reference
- The Minister shall determine the terms of reference for the Special Advisor and may amend them from time to time.
Appointment
- The Minister will reappoint the Special Advisor by Minister’s letter. The Special Advisor shall serve at the pleasure of the Minister for a period not extending beyond June 30, 2026, and may be reappointed by the Minister for a maximum of six additional months, terminating no later than December 31, 2026.
Remuneration and expenses
- The Special Advisor shall be paid such remuneration and expenses as the Lieutenant Governor in Council may determine.
