Order in Council 224/2026

On the recommendation of the undersigned, the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, by and with the advice and concurrence of the Executive Council of Ontario, orders that:

Whereas the Government of Ontario is committed to positioning the Province's economy to take advantage of upcoming federal initiatives in military and defence spending.

And whereas the Government of Ontario is taking key actions to better position Ontario to compete internationally and work with governments and companies in the defence sector in regions around the world to promote Ontario’s defence industry in global markets and attract defence investment to Ontario.

Therefore, pursuant to the prerogative of His Majesty the King in Right of Ontario to provide for the appointment of advisors to serve His Majesty’s Government of Ontario in the discharge of its executive obligations and responsibilities,

1. Special Advisor, Ontario Military Defence Representative – Establishment of Position

One Special Advisor, Ontario Military Defence Representative, accountable to the Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, is hereby established for a period commencing on the date of first appointment to this position by the Lieutenant Governor in Council and ending no later than May 14, 2028.

2. Terms of Reference

The Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade shall determine the terms of reference for the Special Advisor, Ontario Military Defence Representative and may amend them from time to time.

3. Appointment

The Lieutenant Governor in Council may appoint a Special Advisor, Ontario Military Defence Representative to serve at the pleasure of the Lieutenant Governor in Council for a period ending no later than May 14, 2028.

4. Remuneration and Expenses

The Special Advisor, Ontario Military Defence Representative shall not be paid any remuneration for services as the Special Advisor, but shall be reimbursed for reasonable expenses incurred in carrying out the duties as Special Advisor in accordance with the Management Board of Cabinet's Travel, Meal and Hospitality Expenses Directive.
