Gathered in Buffalo on December 19, 2025, Ontario Premier, Mr. Doug Ford and New York State Governor, Ms. Kathy Hochul, reaffirm their intention to deepening the longstanding and strategic relationship between Ontario and New York in mutual domains of interest.

Rooted in shared history, geography and values, Ontario and New York have built a relationship defined by collaboration, openness, and mutual respect that connect their governments and their peoples. Building on years of high-level political dialogue and cooperation, both heads of government express their shared vision and aspirations to create an environment conducive to the emergence of new opportunities and mutually beneficial projects to foster deeper mutual understanding, and to support inclusive and forward-looking economic development.

In this spirit, the Premier and the Governor underline the importance to facilitate the sharing of best practices, strengthen the connections between key stakeholders in Ontario and New York, including businesses, research institutions, and civil society to explore innovative solutions, and to encourage the organization of joint initiatives, with the aim of bringing their respective ecosystems closer together.

Recognizing the depth of economic relations between Ontario and New York, the Premier and the Governor express their support for the expansion of trade partnerships and investment to provide lasting benefits for communities on both sides. They emphasize the essential contribution of businesses based in Ontario and New York, whose cross-border activities promote job creation, stimulate innovation, and strengthen shared prosperity.

The Premier and the Governor further highlight the wish to broaden avenues for collaboration in the fields of energy innovation, economic development, investment, environment, public safety, education, and culture, acknowledging that exchanges among students, artists, scientists, and entrepreneurs are vital to cultivating innovation, mutual understanding, and collective advancement.

The Premier and the Governor are pleased to see Ontario–New York cooperation evolve and underscore the importance of maintaining regular dialogue and establishing mechanisms for coordination and follow-up to ensure sustained engagement and tangible outcomes.
