Additionally, under the Government Advertising Act, 2004, the Auditor General is required to review specified types of advertising and certain printed matter proposed by government offices to determine whether they meet the standards required by that Act.

Under both Acts, the Auditor General reports directly to the Legislative Assembly.

Under the Fiscal Sustainability, Transparency and Accountability Act, 2019, in an election year the Office is also required to report on the reasonableness of a multi-year fiscal plan prepared by the Ministry of Finance.

The Restoring Trust, Transparency and Accountability Act, 2018, transferred many of the responsibilities of the former Environmental Commissioner of Ontario in 2019. The Office conducts audits of government programs that impact the environment under the same processes as the Office’s performance audits and has additional responsibilities with respect to the operations of the Environmental Bill of Rights, 1993.
