Guide for businesses, bailiffs and assistant bailiffs
How to become a bailiff or assistant bailiff and rules you need to follow.
Overview
Under Ontario law, persons and businesses have the right to repossess or seize property from others if they have failed to satisfy the terms of certain agreements. For example, if a borrower fails to make payments for a car that they have financed or leased, the lender or lessor may, in certain circumstances, repossess the vehicle. Similarly, if a commercial tenant fails to pay rent, the landlord may evict the tenant or seize and sell chattels in the property to cover the rent owed.
