Conclusion
Ontario’s OHS system has made notable progress over the past year. This annual report highlights various initiatives led by the ministry. It showcases the substantial efforts and results achieved by our partners to prevent injuries and illnesses in our province’s workplaces.
The contents of this report demonstrate the OHS system’s commitment to collaboration and continuous improvement. The successes we saw last year were largely possible because the OHS system had a common purpose and vision through the Prevention Works strategy. This strategy helped to focus our attention and resources on working to eliminate the highest-risk hazards that can cause the greatest harm.
The OHS system’s progress towards creating and sustaining a healthy and safe Ontario workforce is also largely due to the dedication and many contributions of our stakeholders. Many advances have come through collaboration and partnerships both inside and outside the system.
Prevention Works will continue to be the OHS system’s roadmap for improving occupational health and safety in the coming years. The ministry will continue to report on the planning, delivery and measurement of Prevention Works in the future through the Annual Report. As we continue to address the impacts of COVID‑19, the OHS system will build on current work and find new, evidence-informed ways to expand our capacity and impact to reach those most in need.
Everyone has a role to play – from employers and workers to government and the OHS system partners. Together, we will achieve the vision of Prevention Works:
An Ontario where workplaces promote and practice health and safety in their everyday work and are free from occupational injuries, illnesses and fatalities.
The ministry and our system partners are committed to working together to realize this vision and create the lasting change Prevention Works is designed to accomplish.
