Tax Talk for Teens — Understanding Ontario’s Personal Income Tax, Credits and Benefits

Let us bring tax literacy into your classroom through an engaging virtual experience!
Ontario high school teachers are invited to register their class for a free one-hour webinar that introduces students to how taxes work, why they matter, and the importance of filing a tax return.
What students will learn
- How Ontario’s personal income tax system works
- Why we pay taxes and how they benefit individuals and communities
- Tax credits and benefits students may be eligible for - especially when starting a first job, turning 19, or pursuing post-secondary education
- The basics of an income tax and benefit return
Students will have the opportunity to ask questions at the end of the session.
Who should attend
This webinar is intended for high school students, especially those in grades 10-12. It promotes financial literacy and civic engagement and supports curriculum goals across a range of courses.
Registration
This webinar is designed as a virtual classroom experience for Ontario high school students. Teachers are encouraged to register on behalf of their class and stream the session live during scheduled school hours. We appreciate your understanding that this session is not open to the general public.

Once you register
When you click on Register, it will open a registration webpage.
- Enter your name and email address and click on the Register button. Once you see the message “See you at the event!”, close the window.
- Check your personal email inbox for a Government of Ontario email confirmation. This email contains a link to the session. Keep the email and make note of the session date and time in your personal calendar. If you do not receive a confirmation email within a couple of minutes, please check your Junk folder.
- On the day of the session, re-open your confirmation email and click the Join Event button about five minutes before the start time.
You do not require Microsoft Teams or any other specialized software to join the session.
If you must cancel your registration, simply re-open your confirmation email and click on the Cancel Registration button.
