1. General competition area requirements

  1. The promoter shall provide for the use of each contestant:
    1. a stool for use during the rest period between rounds
    2. a stool or chair for the use of each of their seconds
    3. a clean bucket
  2. The promoter shall provide for the use of officials assigned by the Commissioner:
    1. a stool for each judge, which allows for a clear, unobstructed view of the competition area
    2. tables and chairs for the ringside medical practitioners, scorekeepers and the timekeepers and other officials assigned by the Commissioner, placed immediately adjacent to the competition area
    3. chairs for paramedics, placed in close proximity to the ringside medical practitioners
    4. a bell, horn or similar device, if requested by the Commissioner
    5. bottled water
    6. any other equipment that the Commissioner may specify for the proper conduct of a contest
  3. The competition area shall be amply illuminated by overhead lights which shall:
    1. be mounted not less than 16 feet above the floor of the competition area
    2. be arranged so that shadows are minimized and do not hinder the view of officials and contestants
  4. There shall be no obstructions within 16 feet immediately above the floor of the competition area.
  5. The area immediately surrounding the outside of the competition area shall be:
    1. sufficient to provide adequate space for the seating of officials assigned by the Commissioner and their equipment, at least six feet from spectators
    2. be secured in such a manner as to prevent spectators from having access to the competition area
  6. The promoter shall have an attendant capable of making repairs, corrections and adjustments to the competition area, the lights and other necessary fixtures available at all times during a contest or exhibition.

2. Competition area for bouts of boxing with hands and feet (low kick discipline)

  1. All professional contests or exhibitions of boxing shall be held in a ring, which has been inspected and approved by the Commissioner or an official assigned by the Commissioner.
  2. The ring shall not be less than 18 feet nor more than 24 feet square between the ring ropes, with a platform that must extend beyond the ropes for a distance of at least two feet.
  3. There shall be four ring posts that shall:
    1. be made of metal
    2. extend no more than five feet from above the ring platform
    3. be at least 18 inches away from the ring ropes
    4. be securely attached to the ring ropes by adjustable turn buckles covered in padding
    5. have protective corners that:
      1. extends from the top to the bottom rope
      2. is coloured red and blue at diagonally opposite corners
      3. is coloured in a neutral colour other than red and blue at diagonally opposite corners
  4. The ring platform shall:
    1. be level
    2. be constructed of at least a one-inch base of building board or similar material
    3. be completely padded both inside and outside the ropes with at least a one-inch layer of impact absorbing material
    4. be covered with clean canvas, duck, or similar material, in good condition, stretched taut and laced tightly to the ring platform
    5. not be covered in vinyl, plastic rubberized material or other similar material
    6. be elevated at least three feet but not more than four feet above the floor of the building
  5. There shall be four ring ropes, which shall:
    1. be at least one inch in diameter
    2. be well-padded at all times by a soft material
    3. be evenly spaced, with:
      1. the lowest rope at a height not lower than 12 inches and not higher than 18 inches above the ring floor
      2. the highest rope at a height not lower than 52 inches and not higher than 54 inches above the ring floor
    4. be stretched tight where the ropes are the top two ropes
    5. have two bottom ropes stretched to a safe degree of tightness as determined by a referee assigned by the Commissioner
    6. be secured on all sides by two ties equidistant from the corner posts so that the ropes cannot be separated farther apart at the middle than they are at the corner posts
  6. There shall be steps placed at:
    1. diagonally opposite corners of the ring platform for the use of the contestants, seconds and officials assigned by the Commissioner
    2. a neutral third corner of the ring platform for use of the ringside medical practitioner assigned by the Commissioner, referee, announcer and other representatives of the Commissioner

3. Attendants

  1. The promoter of the event shall have attendants responsible for thoroughly cleaning the competition area after each bout, or upon the request of the referee or Commissioner.
