Order in Council 226/2026
On the recommendation of the undersigned, the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, by and with the advice and concurrence of the Executive Council of Ontario, orders that:
Whereas the Government of Ontario recognizes that Ontario is in a housing crisis caused by a severe lack of supply;
And whereas the Government of Ontario recognizes the need to modernize Ontario’s Building Code and reduce regulatory burden to support faster housing delivery;
And whereas the Government of Ontario wishes to establish a short-term advisory body to undertake a comprehensive section-by-section review of Ontario’s Building Code and to provide advice on reducing regulatory burden while maintaining public health, safety, accessibility, and performance outcomes;
Therefore, pursuant to the prerogative of His Majesty the King in Right of Ontario to establish short-term advisory bodies to provide for the appointment of advisors to serve His Majesty’s Government of Ontario in the discharge of its executive obligations and responsibilities:
Short-Term Advisory Body Established
- The Building Code Short-Term Advisory Body is hereby established as a short-term advisory body, accountable to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing (“Minister”), for a period not to exceed twelve (12) months commencing from the date of this Order.
Appointments to the Short-Term Advisory Body
- The Building Code Short-Term Advisory Body shall consist of up to seven (7) members, including a Chair, appointed by the Minister to serve at pleasure, for a period not exceeding twelve (12) months.
Terms of Reference
- The Minister shall determine the terms of reference for the Building Code Short-Term Advisory Body and may amend them from time to time.
Remuneration of the Short-Term Advisory Body
- The appointees shall be paid such remuneration and reimbursed for such expenses that the Lieutenant Governor in Council may determine.
