Order in Council 229/2026
On the recommendation of the undersigned, the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, by and with the advice and concurrence of the Executive Council of Ontario, orders that:
Whereas by Order in Council O.C. 1229/2024 dated September 26, 2024, the Government of Ontario established the position of Special Advisor to review the governance of the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System, in order to receive advice and recommendations;
And whereas Order in Council O.C. 1332/2025 dated October 17, 2025 extended this position for a period ending no later than March 31, 2026;
And whereas this position has been further extended for a period commencing April 1, 2026 and ending no later than March 31, 2027;
And whereas Order in Council O.C. 1230/2024 dated September 26, 2024 provides for the Special Advisor to be remunerated a maximum amount of $352,500 for the term of his appointment;
And whereas the Lieutenant Governor in Council considers it advisable to increase the maximum amount of the Special Advisor’s remuneration.
Therefore, pursuant to the prerogative of His Majesty the King in Right of Ontario to provide for the appointment of advisors to serve His Majesty’s Government of Ontario in the discharge of its executive obligations and responsibilities, paragraph 1 of Order in Council O.C. 1230/2024 is amended by replacing paragraph 1 with the following new paragraph:
Special Advisor Remuneration
- The Special Advisor shall be remunerated at the following rates for service in their role as Special Advisor, up to a maximum of $369,000 for the period of the appointment ending no later than March 31, 2027:
- A rate of $1,500 per diem for service of three hours or more.
- A rate of $750 per diem for service of less than three hours.
