Order in Council 230/2026

On the recommendation of the undersigned, the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, by and with the advice and concurrence of the Executive Council of Ontario, orders that:

Whereas the 9^th Justices of the Peace Remuneration Commission has been established pursuant to Section 21.1 of the Justices of the Peace Act, R.S.O. 1990, Chapter J.4 and its composition and functions are set out in O. Reg. 319/00 made under that Act;

Whereas the Commission conducted an inquiry under section 4 of O. Reg. 319/00 into the remuneration of Justices of the Peace for the period beginning on April 1, 2023 and ending on March 31, 2027 in respect of the 9^th Commission;

Whereas pursuant to Order in Council 442/2025 the President of the Treasury Board has the powers, duties, functions and responsibilities of the Chair of the Management Board of Cabinet in respect of the Justices of the Peace Act;

Whereas the Commission submitted its recommendations for the remuneration of Justices of the Peace in the form of a report to the President of the Treasury Board on December 16, 2025;

Whereas subsection 10(2) of O. Reg. 319/00 requires that the Lieutenant Governor in Council give its written response to the Commission's recommendations no later than six months after the report was submitted to the Chair of the Management Board of Cabinet;

Whereas the President of the Treasury Board submitted the Commission's report to the Lieutenant Governor in Council and the report was subsequently tabled in the Assembly;

And whereas the Lieutenant Governor in Council has decided to respond to the Commission's recommendations as set out in the letter attached as Schedule A of this Order;

It is ordered that the President of the Treasury Board convey the Lieutenant Governor in Council's response to the Commission's recommendations to the Commission by the letter attached as Schedule A of this Order.
