Overview
The Civil Remedies Grant Program is funded by cash, proceeds and property seized from unlawful activity in Ontario. Not-for-profit organizations, law enforcement agencies and Indigenous communities and organizations can apply to get funding for projects that:
- fight crime
- strengthen public safety
- support victims of crime in their communities
Common items seized and sold to fund the Civil Remedies Grant Program include:
- vehicles (cars, trucks, helicopters)
- luxury handbags
- jewelry
- real estate
- cash
- tools and equipment used in unlawful activity
The program reinvests cash and proceeds seized from unlawful activity to help support victims of crime and prevent crime before it happens across Ontario.
Grant history
Through the 2026–2028 Civil Remedies Grant Program, Ontario is reinvesting $5 million in cash and proceeds to help 27 not-for-profit organizations, law enforcement agencies and Indigenous communities fight crime, strengthen public safety and support victims.
In 2021, Ontario reinvested $1.5 million through the Civil Remedies Grant Program to support 18 community projects across the province.
Funding eligibility
Eligible organizations
Eligible organizations that can apply for a grant include:
- not-for-profit organizations
- law enforcement agencies
- community organizations
- Indigenous communities and organizations, including First Nations, Métis and Inuit organizations
Eligible projects
To be eligible, projects must:
- increase access to services or supports for victims of crime
- assist victims of unlawful activities who may face barriers to accessing services and supports
- prevent unlawful activities that result in victimization
- support educational programs that target unlawful activities that result in victimization
- help organizations address criminal activity that results in victimization and its effects on victims
- enhance the ability of applicants to combat unlawful activities to reduce victimization, particularly through the use of technology and other innovations
