Taxes and rebates
We’re keeping costs down for Ontario families, workers and businesses with no tax increases since 2018.
Providing tax relief at the pumps
We have permanently cut the:
- gas tax by 5.7 cents per litre
- fuel (diesel) tax by 5.3 cents per litre
These cuts have saved households an average of $435 since they were first introduced on July 1, 2022.
Tax relief for first time home buyers
Ontario is proposing to rebate the provincial portion of the HST for first-time home buyers of qualifying new homes, providing a maximum of $80,000 in savings.
This provincial rebate, and the proposed federal rebate to eliminate the federal portion of the HST, means that the full 13% HST would be removed for first-home buyers on qualifying new homes in Ontario.
Roads and transit
Free transfers for GTA transit riders
We’re keeping costs down for families, workers and commuters who take public transit.
One Fare means transit riders only pay once when transferring between GO Transit, TTC, Brampton Transit, Durham Region Transit, MiWay, Peel TransHelp and York Region Transit.
This is saving commuters an average of $1,600 each year.
Banning road tolls
We banned tolls on new provincial highways.
On June 1, 2025, we permanently removed tolls from the provincial-owned Highway 407 East. This will save daily commuters $7,200 annually.
Tolls on Highway 412 and Highway 418 were permanently removed in April 2022, saving daily commuters up to $2,100 annually.
Eliminated licence plate renewal fees
We eliminated the licence plate renewal fee for passenger vehicles in March 2022, saving households an average of $720 to date.
