Returns

ONT-TAXS online allows you to file returns at your convenience in a safe, secure environment. You can also amend the information for a previously filed return, or request IFTA decals.

Tax filing

You can file returns for the following Ontario business taxes using ONT-TAXS online:

  • Beer Tax
  • Corporations Tax (CT) Insurance Premium Tax
  • Employer Health Tax
  • Fuel Tax
  • Gasoline Tax
  • Hydro Payment in Lieu
  • International Fuel Tax Agreement, decal renewals and requests for additional decals
  • Mining Tax
  • Retail Sales Tax (RST) Insurance Premium
  • Tobacco Tax
  • Wine Tax

Submit an EHT Instalment Return

  1. From the main screen, select the EHT Business number to go to the Account Summary screen
  2. Select Return List
  3. Select File Now beside EHT Instalment. Then, select Next.
  4. Select the Reporting Month for the instalment from the drop-down menu
  5. Enter the Reported Taxable Remuneration and Payment Amount
  6. Select Submit
  7. You will be prompted to verify that you are sure you want to submit the request, if you are certain select OK.
    You can pay a tax instalment online. To do so, you will need to have an active Pre-Authorized Debit (PAD) Agreement.
  8. Select OK to return to the Account Summary screen

Submit an EHT Return

  1. From the main screen, select the EHT Business number to go to the Financial screen.
  2. Select Return List for the taxation period
  3. Select File Now beside the EHT Return and enter the return information.
    ONT-TAXS online will calculate the taxable total Ontario remuneration, the tax rate and the total tax payable.
  4. If you paid instalments during the year, enter the total instalments paid for the year.
  5. Enter all of the return information. Then, select Submit.
  6. You will be prompted to verify that you are sure you want to submit the request. If you are certain select OK. You can print a copy for your records.
  7. If you are required to complete the EHT Associated Employers Exemption Allocation select the Return List on the EHT Account Summary page and complete the information.
  8. Select Submit.
  9. You will be prompted to verify that you are sure you want to submit the request, if you are certain select OK.
  10. A confirmation number is generated for the request and will display on screen. Write it down for your records and select OK.
    If you have tax owing, you can pay online. To do so, you will need to have an active Pre-Authorized Debit (PAD) Agreement.

Submit an IFTA Return

  1. Select the IFTA Business number to go to the Account Summary screen.
  2. Select File Now or Return List beside the appropriate period.
  3. Complete each screen with the return information. Select Next to proceed to the next screen.
  4. Select Submit.
  5. You will be prompted to verify that you are sure you want to submit the request, if you are certain select OK.
  6. A confirmation number is generated for the request and will display on screen. Write it down for your records. You can print the return, proceed to payment, or select OK to continue.

Request or Renew IFTA Decals

  1. In the IFTA Account Summary screen select the Return List link beside the December period.
  2. Select File Now beside IFTA Decal Request.
  3. Complete the IFTA Decal request form.
  4. Select Submit.
  5. You will be prompted to verify your request. To confirm, select OK.
  6. A confirmation number is generated for the request and will display on screen. Write it down for your records. You can print the decal request, proceed to payment, or select OK to continue.
    Note: Decals will not be issued until full payment has been received by the Ministry of Finance.

Amend a Return

  1. From the Client Summary screen, select the Business Number of the account.
  2. Select the Activity tab which will list all requests. Only a return in a completed status can be amended.
  3. Select thereturn item to be amended.
  4. Select the Change tab located on the right and enter the amended figures.
  5. Select Submit.
  6. A confirmation number is generated for the request and will display on screen. You can print the amended return, proceed to payment if there is an additional balance owing, or select OK to continue.
    Only returns in a Completed status should be amended. A return in Pending status should be withdrawn and then the correct figures submitted.

After you file your return

For each return or decal request submitted ONT-TAXS online will display a unique submission confirmation number on screen. Print a copy of this confirmation or write it down for your records.

Your return request will be processed and may take several days to be reflected on your account. You can view the details of the return in ONT-TAXS online.
