Preface

Ontario Schools, Kindergarten to Grade 12: Policy and Program Requirements, 2024 brings together the many policies and programs that affect the educational experience of Ontario students in publicly funded elementary and secondary schools. It is intended for schoolfootnote 1 and school boardfootnote 2 administrators, and may also be of use to families, students and the broader educational community.

This webpage replaces the previous Ontario Schools, Kindergarten to Grade 12: Policy and Program Requirements document which was published in 2016.

Many of the policy and program requirements outlined here are described in detail in other, dedicated policy documents. In such cases, a brief description of the policy or program requirement is provided, along with references to the relevant documents. Policies that are not represented in separate documents are fully described here.
