Study purpose

The Ministry of Transportation intends to prepare a transportation development strategy to address long-term Area Transportation System problems and opportunities relative to the inter-regional movement of people and goods in the Brantford-Cambridge area (to 2031), and to prepare plans and conceptual designs for any provincial roadway components of that transportation development strategy.

The identified problems and opportunities include:

  • congestion and insufficient inter-regional area transportation system infrastructure
  • inadequate provincial highway connectivity
  • inter-regional traffic through built-up areas
  • no inter-regional transit
  • no inter-modal facilities
  • forecasted needs required geometric improvements to existing highways
  • no comprehensive highway access management plan
  • better co-ordination of inter-regional transportation and local land use planning
