Destination Niagara
Learn how we’re protecting and growing Ontario’s economy by unlocking the Niagara Region’s full potential as a world-renowned tourism destination.
Overview
The Niagara Region is globally recognized as the home of the iconic Niagara Falls and over 100 breathtaking vineyards. Its $3 billion tourism industry attracts more than 13 million tourists each year, supports over 40,000 jobs and a wide range of businesses.
Many attractions and experiences showcase the rich historical, cultural and environmental heritage of the area. The Niagara Parks Commission, an agency of the Government of Ontario, continually makes investments to improve and refresh must-see guest experiences and venues, such as:
- Niagara Takes Flight
- Niagara City Cruises
- Journey Behind the Falls
- Niagara Parks Power Station and Tunnel
- Zip Line to the Falls
- Table Rock House Restaurant
Our strategy
The Niagara Region is a world-class, multi-day destination for leisure and business travellers that we will continue to promote to:
- increase year-round visitation rates and average visit length
- expand international tourism and global recognition
- encourage private investment for robust economic growth
We will achieve these goals through a strategy with the following five key priorities.
Developing new tourism attractions
We are actively seeking to develop bold, world-class attractions designed to captivate new audiences and encourage visitors to extend their stays, enriching the province’s tourism landscape with fresh, unforgettable experiences.
Introducing new attractions throughout the region will keep Niagara vibrant and engaging, ensuring visitors always have something to discover through all four seasons.
Expanding world-class gaming
From table games to state-of-the-art machines, Niagara’s casinos attract over 5 million visitors every year and generate over $500 million in annual gaming revenue.
We intend to elevate the Niagara gaming experience by exploring options to expand existing casinos including potentially opening the market to multiple new, world-class casinos. More options would enhance Niagara’s reputation as a must-visit, world-class destination that rivals others across the globe.
Growing wine and culinary tourism
Niagara is also home to internationally recognized and award-winning agricultural products and is the largest wine producing region in Canada. Beyond grapes, Niagara’s extensive network of farms and greenhouses plays a key role in shaping the region’s food culture.
This foundation creates strong opportunities for agritourism and sets the stage for further growth as demand for authentic, farm-to-table experiences continues to rise.
Promoting arts and culture
By investing in, developing and enhancing key sites, historical landmarks and cultural venues in the Niagara Region, we will create unforgettable experiences that encourage longer stays and repeat visits.
Investing in transportation
Increasing connectivity throughout the region is integral to supporting tourism growth across Niagara. Transportation developments will make Niagara more accessible for Ontarians, Canadians and international visitors.
Niagara Parks Commission
The Niagara Parks Commission is a key partner to bring new and revitalized tourism experiences and attractions to Niagara.
In August 2025, Niagara Parks Commission opened Niagara Takes Flight, a $25 million state-of-the-art flying theatre experience.
Construction has also started at the Toronto Power Generating Station located on the banks of the upper Niagara River, turning this beautiful heritage building into a five-star boutique hotel hosting a:
- craft brewery
- museum
- art gallery
- theatre
The commission is also opening three competitive procurements to leverage the strong momentum in the region, including:
- building a new world-class, year-round observation wheel attraction offering panoramic views of the iconic Niagara Falls
- redeveloping the Ontario Power Generating Station located in the Niagara Gorge to offer a unique view of the falls
- transforming its marina from an underutilized asset into a top-tier leisure and recreation hub in Fort Erie
