Environmental assessment
The Detour Gold Corporation has completed the Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Detour Lake Contingency Power Project (DLCPP).
The DLCPP is a proposal to install diesel-fired generators capable of supplying 10 megawatts (MW) of power to the Detour Lake mine site. Power for the Detour Lake mine site will eventually be provided by a 230 kilovolt transmission line which will connect the Detour Lake mine site to the Ontario electrical grid at the Pinard transformer station approximately 140 kilometres away; however, because of uncertainties with constructing and energizing the transmission line, a reliable, short term source of power may be required for construction of the Detour Lake Project.
The Detour Lake Project is a proposed open pit gold mine with related processing facilities and infrastructure, to be developed northeast of Cochrane, Ontario at the location of a previously operating mine. The early construction phase of the Detour Lake Project is currently supported by diesel-fired generation of between 1 MW and 5 MW, subject to a separate environmental approval process.

Terms of reference
A terms of reference (ToR) for the Detour Lake Contingency Power Project has been submitted by the Detour Gold Corporation (Detour Gold), to the Minister of the Environment for approval under the Environmental Assessment Act (EAA). The ToR sets out Detour Gold’s work plan for preparing the EA and for carrying out the required public consultation.
Purpose of the study
The Detour Contingency Power Project is a proposal to install an additional 10 MW of diesel-fired generation to provide power to support the construction of the Detour Lake Project as a contingency, should the energizing of the proposed transmission line to the site be delayed. The Detour Lake Project is a proposed open pit gold mine with related processing facilities and infrastructure, to be developed northeast of Cochrane, Ontario at the location of a previously operating mine.
