File bankruptcy court documents online
Learn how to file court documents online for a bankruptcy case.
Important: Starting October 14, 2025, all online filings for the Toronto region must be submitted using the Ontario Courts Public Portal. The Bankruptcy Submissions Online portal will continue to be available to file court documents online for bankruptcy cases in other regions outside of Toronto.
Overview
When you file documents in a bankruptcy case, you should work with a lawyer or an insolvency professional, such as a trustee in bankruptcy. They know what documents to file and the court processes to follow as set out in the:
- Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act
- Bankruptcy and Insolvency General Rules
- Rules of Civil Procedure
- Notices or Practice Directions
A lawyer can provide advice on:
- your options and legal risks
- the evidence you should provide to the court
- the consequences of not providing the required information or following court procedure
Find a lawyer
You can find a lawyer through:
- The Law Society of Ontario’s referral service
- Pro Bono Ontario, if you can’t afford a lawyer and don’t qualify for legal aid
