Project summary
The project proposes to reconfigure the eastern portion of the elevated Gardiner Expressway and Lake Shore Boulevard East that extends 2.4 kilometres from approximately Lower Jarvis Street to approximately Leslie Street.
The project includes:
- the removal of the existing elevated expressway east of Cherry Street and the construction of a new elevated expressway link with the Don Valley Parkway
- the construction of a realigned Lake Shore Boulevard from Cherry Street to Don Roadway with new ramps to and from the relocated Gardiner Expressway
- reconstruction of Lake Shore Boulevard east of the Don River to Logan Avenue including a reconstructed Don River Bridge, and other improvements
- public realm improvements that would extend the full length of the corridor from Jarvis Street to Leslie Street (e.g. streetscaping, multi-use trail, landscaping, etc.)

Environmental assessment
The City of Toronto and Waterfront Toronto submitted its environmental assessment (EA) for the proposed Gardiner Expressway and Lakeshore Boulevard East Reconfiguration on January 27, 2017.
The Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change completed its review of the EA on July 28, 2017.
On November 22, 2017, the Minister of the Environment and Climate Change, with concurrence from the Lieutenant Governor in Council, gave approval to proceed with the undertaking, subject to conditions.
