Have your say: making auto insurance more accessible and affordable in Ontario
This consultation is now closed.
From January 9, 2019 to February 15, 2019, we invited you to share your ideas on improving car insurance in Ontario and putting drivers first.
Your feedback will help us identify ways to responsibly lower rates, cut red tape and put drivers first.
About the consultation
We have among the highest auto insurance rates in the country. We want to make it more affordable and make life easier for the nearly 10 million drivers across the province.
We’re committed to:
- putting drivers first
- making sure auto insurance rates are fair
- ending discriminatory practices
- cracking down on fraud and creating a better system for law abiding drivers
- modernizing the sector by allowing innovative insurance products and electronic communications, proof of auto insurance and other options that consumers have come to expect from their financial institutions
We're consulting with drivers, consumers and stakeholders across the auto insurance system to explore options to fulfill these commitments in a responsible way.
The consultation is the first phase of this work. We will also work with the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario to review how auto insurance rates are regulated. The review will examine practices in other jurisdictions and identify opportunities for greater efficiencies and more competition.
