You can apply to replace your mobility aid if:

- the mobility aid is worn out, no longer covered by warranty and cannot be repaired at a reasonable cost
We do not cover costs to replace a lost mobility aid or to repair aids damaged through misuse or neglect.
How much is covered
The ADP-registered business will bill the ADP directly for 75% of the cost for your mobility aid. You must pay the remaining 25%.
The ADP sets the prices that registered businesses can charge for mobility aids. When setting the price, the ADP considers:
- manufacturer’s and/or distributor’s costs
- complexity of device
A registered business can't charge you more than the ADP price for the approved device. You have to pay for additional items not covered by the ADP (batteries for power wheelchairs, for example).
Getting 100% coverage
The ADP covers 100% of the cost, if you receive financial support from one of these programs:
Apply for mobility aids
Follow these 4 steps to apply:
Get examined by an occupational therapist or physiotherapist registered with the ADP. This will confirm that you need a mobility aid and determine which type best suits your needs.
Email us at adp@ontario.ca for a list of registered therapists in your area.
- Fill out the application form with the help of the occupational therapist or physiotherapist.
- Find a business registered with the ADP to sell you the mobility aid. Use the table below. Your occupational therapist or physiotherapist can help you.
- The registered business will help you complete the application form and will electronically submit the completed form to the ADP.
What happens next
We aim to review your application within 8 weeks of receiving it.
If your application has been denied, you will receive a letter from us telling you the reason for the denial and how you can follow up, including appealing our decision.
It is important to follow steps 1 to 4 above before purchasing your mobility aid(s). If you order or buy your mobility aid(s) before these steps have been completed, you will be responsible for paying the full cost.
If your application is approved
If your application is approved, we will contact your business and occupational therapist/physiotherapist.
They will contact you and arrange a time for your mobility aid to be delivered if it has not already been provided.
When you get the mobility aid(s), you must pay your 25% share. We pay the business the 75% separately.
High technology power wheelchairs
A high technology power wheelchair has power dynamic tilt and/or recline.
If you’re applying to the ADP for one of these wheelchairs, you must buy it from the Central Equipment Pool for High Technology Wheelchairs (CEP).
The CEP:
- sells high technology power wheelchairs at a discounted price
- gives rebates for equipment returned to the pool when no longer needed
- provides warranty repairs and preventative maintenance
Your occupational therapist or physiotherapist will help you to access the CEP if you need a high technology power wheelchair.
