Environmental Assessment
The North Renfrew Waste Management Board submitted an environmental assessment in June, 1996 and is seeking approval for a new landfill site to serve the Town of Deep River, Village of Chalk River, and the Township of Rolph, Buchanan, Wylie and McKay. The preferred site is approximately 3.2 hectares in size and is located north-east of the Village of Chalk River, west of Bragg’s Road, approximately two kilometres north of Plant Road on vacant land owned by Atomic Energy of Canada. The landfill will be operational for about 25 years and will be accepting 75,000 tonnes of non-hazardous solid waste. The Notice of Completion of Review was issued on February 27, 1997. The Notice of Acceptance was issued on October 9, 1997. The project was approved March 25, 1998.
