Northeast power line project

Current status
A regulation has been made under the Environmental Assessment Act which will facilitate development of the Northeast power line project while maintaining environmental protections.
Project summary
The Northeast power line project consists of:
- Establishing a new 500 kilovolt transmission line running approximately 205 kilometres in length between the Mississagi transformer station near Wharncliffe, and the Hanmer transformer station in Greater Sudbury, parallel and adjacent to the existing Mississagi-Hanmer transmission line.
- Changes to the Mississagi and Hanmer transformer stations, such as expansions and upgrades, which are associated with the new transmission line.

Exemption regulation (2025)
A regulation has been made under the Environmental Assessment Act that exempts the project from further requirements under the Act, subject to specific conditions.
Additionally, the following related activities have been unconditionally exempted from the Environmental Assessment Act:
- Acquisition of lands and property by Hydro One Networks Inc. for the project.
- Undertakings that are subject to the Class Environmental Assessment for Ministry of Natural Resources Resource Stewardship and Facility Development Projects that are for or related to the project.
