Privacy notice: name change
By law, all formal name changes registered under Ontario’s Change of Name Act must be published in the Ontario Gazette with some exceptions.
Exceptions:
- Risk of harm
- The Attorney General can make exceptions if publishing a name change could cause significant harm to the individual. To ask about this, email: MAG.Change.of.Name@ontario.ca
- The person whose name is being changed is a transgender, First Nation, Inuit or Métis individual and at the time of the application, they request that their name change not to be published.
