Overview

With ONT-TAXS online, you can access your business tax accounts to:

  • file your tax returns
  • make payments
  • view and update your account information
  • request a refund
  • give your employees or representatives (such as external accountants or bookkeepers) access to your ONT-TAXS online accounts
  • view up to four years of history for your business tax account(s), including Debt Retirement Charge and Gross Revenue Charge
  • communicate securely with the Ministry of Finance
  • request International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) decals
  • order Raw Leaf Tobacco markers

ONT-TAXS online saves time, reduces paper use, and is available 24/7.

Programs supported by ONT-TAXS online

The following programs are supported by ONT-TAXS online:

  • Beer, Wine and Spirit Taxes
  • Corporations Tax (CT) Insurance Premium Tax
  • Employer Health Tax
  • Fuel Tax
  • Gasoline Tax
  • Hydro Payment in Lieu (view account details and make payments)
  • International Fuel Tax Agreement (decal renewals and requests for additional decals)
  • Mining Tax
  • Retail Sales Tax (RST) Insurance Premium
  • Tobacco Tax
  • Raw Leaf Tobacco (order markers and submit forms)

Registration

Registering for ONT-TAXS online is a three-step process:

Step 1: Sign in to My Ontario Account

Step 2: Set up multi-factor authentication

Step 3: Finalize ONT-TAXS online registration

Register or sign in to ONT-TAXS online

Step 1: Sign in to My Ontario Account

ONT-TAXS online is protected by My Ontario Account, the Government of Ontario’s secure login service. You need to sign in to My Ontario Account to access your ONT-TAXS online account.

You can sign in to My Ontario Account using an email address and password or the Sign-In Partner Interac® sign in service.

Email address and password

You need an email address and a password to create a My Ontario Account.

Your email will be used to:

  • sign in to My Ontario Account and access your ONT-TAXS online account
  • reset your password

Sign-In Partner Interac® sign in service

You can access ONT-TAXS online by using a participating Sign-In Partner, such as your bank. With the Interac® sign in service, you use the same sign in information as your online banking to sign in to your My Ontario Account.

Your bank will not charge you for using your banking information to access ONT-TAXS online.

Your banking information is never shared with the government, and information about the government services you are using is never shared with your bank.

Complete My Ontario account activation

You will receive an activation email the first time you sign in to My Ontario Account. Follow the steps on the “Verify with your email” screen to complete your account activation.

After you sign in to My Ontario Account, you will be prompted to set up multi-factor authentication (also known as MFA).

Step 2: Set up multi-factor authentication

ONT-TAXS online uses multi-factor authentication to increase the security of your account.

You are required to enter your My Ontario Account password and a one-time verification code each time you sign in to ONT-TAXS online.

You can select one of the following options to receive your one-time verification code:

  • Email: Receive a one-time verification code by email each time you sign in to ONT-TAXS online.
  • Third-Party Authenticator App: Use a Mobile Authenticator App or Okta Verify App to create a one-time verification code. You can install the mobile app from the App Store or Google Play Store.

Step 3: Finalize ONT-TAXS online registration

After you set up multi-factor authentication, you need the following information to complete the ONT-TAXS online registration process:

  • 15-digit business number/identification number
  • Account type
  • Business legal name
  • Last tax payment or refund amount or Letter Reference Number

Manage account access

You can authorize your employees or representatives (such as your accountant or bookkeeper) to file tax returns and make payments on your behalf using ONT-TAXS online.

To authorize an employee or representative:

  • Your representative must be registered with the Ministry of Finance by calling 1-866-668-8297.
  • You need an ONT-TAXS online account.
  • Your employee or representative needs an ONT-TAXS online account.
  • You need your employee or representative’s Web Access Code (WAC)

Your employee or representative can find their WAC under “Manage My Profile” on the ONT-TAXS online home screen.

Your employee or representative will receive an email confirmation that they are authorized to manage your account. They will have access to your account the next time they sign in to ONT-TAXS online.

Online letters and messages

The Ministry of Finance will send you important information about your business tax account through ONT-TAXS online.

When you sign in to ONT-TAXS online, you can access, view, print, or download your correspondence, such as notices, letters, forms, statements, and other documents.

How to view online letters and messages

Step 1: Sign in to your ONT-TAXS online account. If you are an authorized representative or have access to multiple accounts, you will need to select the account you wish to view.

Step 2: Select Manage My Profile.

Step 3: Select the Letters tab to view your letters, or the Messages and More tab to view your messages.

Step 4: Select View Letters or View and Send Messages.

Step 5: Select the Inbox tab, where you can view any letters or messages issued within the last 12 months.

Make a payment online

Visa Debit and Debit Mastercard

You can use Visa Debit or Debit Mastercard to make payments in ONT-TAXS online.

Visa Debit and Debit Mastercard allow you to make online payments directly from your bank account. You cannot use credit cards to make payments. All payments are processed through a secure third-party website.

Fees and transaction limits

The Ministry of Finance does not charge a fee for using this service. Ask your bank about any fees or transaction limits that may apply to online payments.

Pre-Authorized Debit

You can schedule one or more payment(s) from your bank account by creating pre-authorized debits in ONT-TAXS online.

You set the payment amount and authorize the Ministry of Finance to withdraw it from your Canadian bank account on the date(s) you select.

A pre-authorized debit agreement must be set up in ONT-TAXS online before you can make a pre-authorized debit payment.
