Adverse weather on the farm

Overview

Adverse weather can create challenging situations for producers. It is important for producers to be prepared for and develop plans for potential weather-related issues such as drought, cold and hot conditions, hail and wind in order to prevent production losses.

We recognize that farmers are under a lot of stress and major weather events can certainly have a negative impact. The ministry has resources available for farmers who need them, including:

• Online at Mental health resources for farmers.
• The Ontario 211 (province-wide crisis line) will connect callers to mental health supports in their communities.
• Farmer Wellness Initiative: Access to free, professional mental health counselling support by calling the toll-free number 1-866-267-6255.
