We are working towards the vision of an Ontario where all workplaces promote and practice health and safety in their everyday work and are free from occupational injuries, illnesses and fatalities. As we completed the second year of implementing Prevention Works, the OHS system continues to make progress.

The total number of workplace fatalities recognized by the WSIB decreased in 2022. We are striving as a system to reduce this even further. We will continue to monitor this data to inform where more efforts are needed. No workplace fatality is acceptable.

The OHS system components are working together to:

  • build and use the best evidence to target initiatives and measure performance
  • improve OHS knowledge and practices
  • support workplaces to fulfill occupational health and safety roles and responsibilities and achieve excellence
  • make occupational health and safety easier for small businesses
  • prevent occupational illnesses
  • improve work-related mental health and prevent workplace violence and harassment

As we take stock of the OHS system in 2022-23, we recognize the efforts of many workers, employers, HSAs, researchers and other partners. Together, we are committed to the collective vision of a province that is safe and healthy for all workers. We look forward to our ongoing collaboration to build on this work for the future.
