Background

Effective September 1, 2023, one new diagnostic code and one new explanatory code have been created for the new optometry appropriateness changes.

New diagnostic code and descriptions

  • 976 - Poisoning by eye anti-infectives and other eye drugs

Explanatory code and description

  • VN - allowed as a major oculo-visual examination for seniors with medical conditions

For additional information on when to use the diagnostic code and when you could receive the new explanatory code, please see INFOBulletin 230804.

Please ensure that your billing software is updated to include the new Optometry fee code for any services rendered on or after September 1, 2023.

The updated Fee Schedule Master can be found on the Ministry of Health website.
