Declaration order

The Ministry of Public Infrastructure Renewal requested a Declaration Order that would exempt the Ontario Realty Corporation (ORC) from the Environmental Assessment Act (EAA) requirements for the acquisition and transfer of lands from private ownership to provincial ownership. ORC meets the requirements of the EAA through their Class EA. The lands are to be held in a trust, single purpose corporation or other legal entity established for the purpose of holding the property in Caledonia in order to improve relations with Aboriginal communities and to provide economic relief to the land owners associated with the Douglas Creek Estates lands.

The lands are located on the east side of Highway 6 and are approximately 1.5 km south of the Grand River. The property is located slightly east of the Six Nations First Nations Reserve.

On June 15, 2006, the Declaration Order was approved, with the concurrence of Cabinet, pursuant to section 3.2 of the EAA.
