Project summary
The purpose of the undertaking is to address public transit improvements on Warden Avenue between Steeles Avenue and Enterprise Drive.
The proposed undertaking consists of a two-lane median transitway along Warden Avenue corridor between Steeles Avenue and Enterprise Drive. The total length of proposed transitway is 3.2 kilometres and is entirely within the Town of Markham.
Timing for implementation of the section of transitway from Denison Street to Steeles Avenue is contingent on further transit planning within the City of Toronto. In the interim, transit services will operate in mixed traffic on existing roads (Denison Street, Esna Park Drive, Pharmacy Avenue, Gordon Baker Road, Finch Avenue East and Don Mills Road) providing a connection between Markham Centre and the Sheppard Subway.
The proposed transitway will be designed to accommodate both Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and Light Rail Transit (LRT) vehicle technologies. The median transitway will be accommodated by widening Warden Avenue by one lane in each direction. Stations will be included at major intersections as shown on the map.
No new construction is proposed within the City of Toronto as part of the undertaking. Transit stops already exist within Toronto as part of the Viva Phase 1 rapid transit service.
