Project summary
The purpose of the undertaking is to construct and operate an upgraded people mover system on a 10.3-kilometre route within the Primary Tourist Area of Niagara Falls.
The Automated People Mover (APM) is a high-occupancy vehicle which:
- uses a specifically designed right-of-way completely independent of regular traffic
- operates using electric motor power
The undertaking is a people mover transit system primarily serving visitors to Niagara Falls, employing a fixed guideway/dedicated right-of-way.
The vehicles for the system would operate on an elevated guideway between Highway 420/Rainbow Bridge in the north and the Rapidsview parking area to the south.
The undertaking also includes 13 stations, a maintenance facility, a storage area and an operations centre.

Environmental assessment
On August 8, 2001, the former Minister of the Environment, with Cabinet concurrence, approved the Niagara People Mover Transit System environmental assessment.
With the proclamation of section 17.25 of the Environmental Assessment Act on February 22, 2024, the expiry date of the approval was extended by Minister's Notice. The project’s approval will now expire on February 22, 2034.
