Selling

The seller of a used vehicle is legally required to provide the buyer with a used vehicle information package at the time-of-sale; this protects the buyers’ rights.

Buying

The buyer needs a used vehicle information package to register a used vehicle purchased from a private seller (OMVIC registered dealerships do not need to provide a UVIP). The buyer is not required to obtain the used vehicle information package themselves. The buyer can request a used vehicle information package from the seller, or can also purchase a UVIP either prior to the sale or upon the transfer of the vehicle at a ServiceOntario centre.

For more information about buying or selling a vehicle visit the Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council (OMVIC) website.
