One Computer Strategy

The One Computer Strategy began as a pilot project in the East region’s Cornwall courthouse and expanded in 2025–2026 across the full Northwest region.

The initiative provides frontline court staff with their own individual laptops and eliminates most shared desktops in courtrooms and administrative court offices.

The One Computer approach will provide frontline staff with the flexibility to move between courtrooms, admin offices and other court locations or regions.

Through the pilot, many benefits were demonstrated, including:

  • saved time from fewer login-related issues and profile resets
  • smoother workflows between court and office
  • reduced IT help desk requests and tickets
  • improved staff morale

Because of these results, the initiative will roll out provincewide in 2026–2027. The One Computer Strategy is a great example of how staff feedback and a local pilot project can turn into a solution benefitting thousands of employees.

Reflections

“Laptops have been the best thing for us in a long time. The suggestion from Brie has allowed more efficiency of work to increase with the ability to multi-task and to utilize our own laptops no matter what courtroom we go to has been huge for us. When we were using desktops, they were slow, our files never followed us and emails would lag and never load fast enough.” - TJ V., Kenora, Northwest region

“As court and client representatives, our work is mobile, switching between courtrooms and offices daily. Having a dedicated laptop makes that so much easier – it enables us to set up our desktop to quickly and easily find the items we use most often. It also allows us to move our work anywhere in the building, and pick up right where we left off, because everything on our desktop is right where we placed it. Our laptops are an important tool to keep us efficient and organized.” – Megan W., Fort Frances, Northwest region

“Running this pilot clearly demonstrated that investing in the right technology empowers employees, improves the workplace experience and creates more efficient and responsive court operations for both staff and the public we serve!” - Johanne C., Cornwall, East region

Centre for Addiction and Mental Health Assessment

The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) mental health needs assessment project remains a key priority for the Court Services Division (CSD). The project supports the division's understanding of the unique mental health, psychological health and trauma-related needs of frontline court staff.

In March 2026, the results of CAMH’s mental health needs assessment were shared transparently with all CSD staff. Building on these findings, an internal working group will be reviewing CAMH's recommendations to identify priorities, develop an implementation plan and determine next steps to strengthen mental health supports across the division.

Reflections

“Working on the CAMH project has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. It has given me the opportunity to hear the voices of employees, understand the root causes behind their experiences and eventually help turn those insights into meaningful actions that improve the workplace.” - Michelle K., Corporate Support Branch
