Commercial vehicle safety modules
Learn about Ontario’s commercial vehicle safety laws and programs by watching interactive video modules.
Overview
In Ontario, all of the following are considered commercial vehicles:
- trucks with a registered gross weight (RGW) or actual weight over 4,500 kg, including vehicles with farm licence plates
- buses with a seating capacity of 10 or more passengers
- concrete pumps and mobile cranes (not including off-road mobile cranes)
- tow trucks
To register and operate one of these vehicles in Ontario, you need a commercial vehicle operator’s registration (CVOR) certificate, and are subject to different laws and requirements based on the type of vehicle you’re operating.
This collection of video safety modules covers the basics about Ontario’s commercial safety programs, laws and requirements including:
- licensing
- safety management
- vehicle maintenance
- international agreements
Please note, these videos are for reference only. Anyone applying for a new CVOR certificate will be required to complete formal online training as part of the application process. When you apply, you will receive a direct link to the online training. These modules are not a replacement for completing the formal education and assessment training.
