Integrated Resource Management (IRM) Technical Specialists help manage Ontario’s natural resources by balancing infrastructure development, economic growth and recreation with environmental protection.
You will work across various areas, including:

- dam operations and emergency management
- aggregates
The Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) via the Regional Operations Division (ROD) requires individuals and businesses to get approval for activities involving wildlife and natural resources.
As an IRM Technical Specialist with MNR’s Regional Operations Division (ROD), you will lead these approval processes by:
- gathering and analyzing information
- consulting with experts and stakeholders
- making recommendations on natural resource management decisions
What you'll do
As an IRM Technical Specialist, you will:
- lead permitting, approvals and compliance activities by balancing both field and office-based work
- ensure individuals and businesses use Ontario’s natural resources sustainably and follow our legislation and policies
- build strong relationships with stakeholders to move projects forward responsibly
- play an important role in emergency response efforts
Your work will include the following activities:
- authorization to use Crown land, including:
- work on shorelands
- road or trail construction
- permits to remove wood or trees
- developing structures on Crown land
- leasing Crown land
- infrastructure and resource projects, including:
- all-season road construction in the Far North
- renewable energy projects
- fish and wildlife management, including:
- supporting fish stocking activities
- determining trapline allocations
- Forestry support, including
- forest operations compliance
- authorizations to harvest trees for personal use
- Water management, including:
- managing dam operations to support water levels and prevent flooding
- regulatory compliance, including:
- ensuring those that manage forests, aggregate pits and other resources follow legal and policy requirements
