Dual credit teacher responsibilities
Overview
As a dual credit teacher, you are responsible for the following activities. You can use this list of responsibilities as a checklist to help you deliver dual credit programs.
Policy awareness and compliance
Dual credit teachers must:
- follow Ministry of Education policy related to dual credit programs set out in this document
- be aware of and adhere to relevant ministry policies
Refer to our policy and curriculum resources.
Find useful information about credit transfer and apprenticeship.
Student learning and support
- Provide supervision, monitoring, remediation, and academic support.
- Clarify expectations for both secondary and college coursework.
- Support students in accessing academic or other supports available through postsecondary institutions or school boards.
- Implement accommodations outlined in a student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP), where applicable.
Communication and coordination
- Liaise with postsecondary professors, instructors and school staff.
- Monitor student attendance and achievement.
- Support students in accessing available postsecondary services.
Assessment and reporting
- Complete learning skills, work habits, and attendance reporting.
- Use “NM” at midterm, with required comments, when no mark is available.
- Ensure principals receive postsecondary records in a timely way.
Pathway planning
- Support documentation of learning in Individual Pathways Plans.
- Discuss next steps with students when postsecondary components are not completed successfully.
