Student eligibility for dual credit programs

Overview 

Dual credit programs are for students who:

• are close to earning their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)
• would benefit from earning postsecondary credits or apprenticeship training while still in secondary school

Eligible students are selected under the principal’s oversight, based on the following criteria:

Primary target group

The dual credit program prioritizes students who:

• are disengaged from school
• are at risk of not graduating
• have the potential to:
  • succeed in a dual credit course or Level 1 apprenticeship program
  • earn their OSSD

These students have priority access to available dual credit seats.

Other eligible students

Dual credit programs may also be offered to students who are: 

• enrolled in a Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM)
• enrolled in the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP)
• returning to high school to get their diploma
• exploring career pathways in alignment with labour market priorities
• enrolled in federally funded / First Nation-operated schools

How students are selected

Students may:

• express interest to their principal or guidance counsellor during course selection
• be identified by school staff who believe they would benefit from participating

The principal oversees all selection decisions.
