Student eligibility for dual credit programs
Overview
Dual credit programs are for students who:
- are close to earning their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)
- would benefit from earning postsecondary credits or apprenticeship training while still in secondary school
Eligible students are selected under the principal’s oversight, based on the following criteria:
Primary target group
The dual credit program prioritizes students who:
- are disengaged from school
- are at risk of not graduating
- have the potential to:
- succeed in a dual credit course or Level 1 apprenticeship program
- earn their OSSD
These students have priority access to available dual credit seats.
Other eligible students
Dual credit programs may also be offered to students who are:
- enrolled in a Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM)
- enrolled in the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP)
- returning to high school to get their diploma
- exploring career pathways in alignment with labour market priorities
- enrolled in federally funded / First Nation-operated schools
How students are selected
Students may:
- express interest to their principal or guidance counsellor during course selection
- be identified by school staff who believe they would benefit from participating
The principal oversees all selection decisions.
