The easiest and safest backing manoeuvre is straight backing. Whenever possible use this approach.

  1. Pull ahead and position the tractor and trailer in line with the direction you want it to take.
  2. Ensure front and rear wheels are straight and centred.
  3. Watch both mirrors while backing slowly in a straight line.
  4. If the trailer drifts left or right, align the vehicle accordingly.
