Since March 30, 2026, Ontario Building Code exams are based on the 2024 Building Code. For more information, visit the 2024 Building Code page.

This guide provides details on what sections and sub-sections of the Building Code Act, 1992, the Building Code or Supplementary Standards were required for exams, prior to qualifying as a:

  • building official, such as:
    • building official (chief building official, supervisor, manager, plans examiner, inspector)
    • supervisor
    • manager
    • plans examiner and inspector, including on-site sewage system inspector and fire protection inspector
  • designer
  • on-site sewage system installer

Each syllabus is a listing of specific sections, sub-sections, articles and sentences that are relevant to each exam.
