Incontinence supplies

Incontinence items/supplies are intended for individuals diagnosed with

  • moderate to severe unresolvable daily urinary and/or bowel incontinence (requiring a medical grade product a minimum of three times per 24-hour period); or
  • a congenital anomaly or physiological abnormality that prevents the ability to achieve continence

Exclusions

Items provided by the following programs will not be covered by ODSP:

  • The Easter Seals Society Ontario provides different incontinence supplies grants to children and youth between ages 3 to 18 years with severe disabilities where the disability results in chronic incontinence. Clients eligible for this grant must apply for this grant before applying for ODSP. ODSP will cover the cost of items after this grant runs out.

ODSP will not cover items for:

  • use in hospitals or long-term care facilities, except prescribed as part of a discharge plan and not covered by any other source
  • use for menstruation
  • children under four years of age

Ostomy

Ostomy supplies are intended for individuals who have:

  • a diagnosis of chronic functioning colostomy, urostomy or ileostomy; or
  • a permanent ostomy and not expected to have a reversal within six months of the initial ostomy surgery

Exclusions

Items provided by the following programs will not be covered by ODSP:

  • The Ministry of Health’s (MOH) Assistive Devices Program (ADP) provides a yearly grant of $1,300, payable in two instalments for Ostomy supplies. Clients requesting assistance from ODSP for ostomy supplies must provide verification that they have applied for, and already exhausted this grant.

Clients will only be eligible for coverage through ODSP when other program funding is insufficient to cover cost of medically necessary items.

ODSP will not cover:

  • Wound solutions or cleansers
