Positive Airway Pressure Systems
Positive airway pressure systems and supplies are intended for individuals who:
- have been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS), and
- have rented or purchased a Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) system through Assistive Devices Program (ADP)
Exclusions
Items provided by the following programs will not be covered by ODSP:
- The Ministry of Health’s (MOH) Assistive Devices Program (ADP) covers continuous positive airway pressure systems (CPAP), auto-titrating positive airway pressure systems (APAP) and bi-level positive airway pressure systems (BPAP) systems. The covered systems include a positive airway pressure device; a heated humidifier; a basic mask and headgear; a carrying case; 6 ft tubing; all necessary caps/filters; and a user instruction manual. ADP also requires all suppliers to provide a minimum of 3 years of warranty. ADP does not provide any funding for the cost of repairs, maintenance and/or batteries for any device.
Coverage through the MSN Benefit for eligible replacement supplies is provided when requested by an ODSP recipient and the Ministry approves the need for items. The Ministry will not cover the costs of “order releases” by vendors that have not been Ministry approved and requested by a recipient.
Note: the basic initial supplies (e.g., basic mask) covered by ADP for CPAP/APAP/BPAP systems generally meet the needs of users.

Suction Devices
Suction devices and relates supplies are intended for individuals who have:
- been diagnosed with a chronic respiratory illness or disability requiring the long-term (six months or more) use of a suction device, and
- rented or purchased a Suction device through Assistive Devices Program (ADP)
Exclusions
Items provided by the following programs will not be covered by ODSP:
- The Ministry of Health’s (MOH) Assistive Devices Program (ADP) covers portable and stationary suction units and provides $240 per year, paid in 4 equal instalments ($60 every 3 months) for supplies to ODSP recipients. ODSP will cover the cost of supplies only after the client has utilized this grant. ADP also requires all suppliers to provide a minimum of 3 years of warranty. ADP does not provide any funding for the cost of repairs, maintenance and/or batteries for any Device.
Clients will only be eligible for coverage through ODSP when other program funding is insufficient to cover cost of medically necessary items.

Tracheostomy Equipment
Tracheostomy equipment and supplies are intended for individuals who:
- have undergone a tracheostomy
Exclusions
Items provided by the following programs will not be covered by ODSP:
- The Ministry of Health’s (MOH) Assistive Devices Program (ADP) covers tracheostomy equipment, including tracheostomy tubes, speaking valves or other tracheostomy supplies through two grants for (ODSP) recipients:
- Tracheostomy tubes: $1200 per year, paid in 4 equal instalments ($300 every 3 months)
- Other Tracheostomy Supplies: $2000 per year, paid in 4 equal instalments ($500 every 3 months)
Clients will only be eligible for coverage through ODSP when other program funding is insufficient to cover cost of medically necessary items.

Medication Compressors
Medication compressors are intended for individuals who have:
- been diagnosed with a chronic respiratory illness or dysfunction that requires regular, long-term treatment for a period of six months or longer with inhaled aerosolized medications and is unable to use a powdered delivery or metered-dose form of medication, or
- been diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, or
- is taking inhaled antibiotics, or
- a permanent tracheostomy which requires inhaled aerosolized medications, or
- a physical disability (e.g. arthritis in the hands, quadriplegia) that prevents them from using a powdered delivery or metered-dose form of medication, or individuals who have not yet developed the co-ordination required to operate powdered delivery or metered-dose devices
Exclusions
Items provided by the following programs will not be covered by ODSP:
- The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care’s (MOHLTC) Assistive Devices Program (ADP) covers portable and stationary medication compressors. It also requires all suppliers to provide a minimum of 5 years of warranty. ADP does not provide any funding for the cost of repairs, maintenance and/or batteries for any device.
- ADP provides coverage for compressors for certain medications. ODSP will only cover replacement supplies where ADP determines a compressor is appropriate.
